The office of the Co-District Commissioner is located at Rupai Siding, Doomdooma near Doomdooma College.

Doomdooma Co District, also known as the Tea City Town due to the presence of a large number of Tea Gardens, has a fascinating history deeply rooted in nature and culture. The area was once covered in dense forests, which served as a perfect habitat for elephants. The name Doomdooma itself is thought to have originated from the sound of elephant footfalls, which echoed like "dumdum" in the local dialect. The town’s connection with elephants is a tribute to their presence and importance in the region.

Historically, Doomdooma was part of the Ahom kingdom, which ruled Assam for several centuries. The Ahoms were known for their strong administrative structure and their contributions to the culture and development of the region. However, with the British invasion in the 19th century, the dynamics of the region shifted. The British recognized the fertile land and favorable climate of Doomdooma for tea cultivation, a crop that became immensely profitable.

Under British influence, the area was gradually transformed into a bustling tea-producing town. The British set up tea estates, bringing both industrial development and economic prosperity to Doomdooma, which has continued to thrive as a major hub for tea production to this day. Over time, the town developed with the construction of infrastructure and a growing population, all while maintaining a connection to its natural roots and heritage.

Today, Doomdooma remains an important part of Assam’s tea industry and continues to be a town with historical significance tied to both the natural environment and the legacies of past rulers.
